Truck crashes into bridge pillar

Mirror photo by Gary M. Baranec The driver of a pickup truck was seriously injured in a multi-vehicle accident at the intersection of Woodbury Pike and Plum Creek Road on Thursday morning.

ROARING SPRING — A truck crashed into a bridge pillar and caught on fire at Woodbury Pike and Plum Creek Road on Thursday, causing serious injuries to the driver, according to a state police press release.

At 10:12 a.m., state police responded to a call about a three-vehicle crash along Woodbury Pike between McKee and Roaring Spring. The truck hit two other cars while traveling northbound on the road before rolling over a guardrail and landing on an embankment, striking the bridge, the report stated.

The truck caught on fire as a result of the crash, police said. Freedom Township Fire Department extinguished the fire.

The truck driver and a driver of another vehicle were taken to UPMC Altoona for treatment, the report stated. Police are still investigating the crash and are not releasing names until the investigation is complete.

Emergency personnel from Roaring Spring Borough, Martinsburg Borough, Freedom Township Police Department, Blair County Sheriff’s Department, East Freedom Fire Department, Roaring Spring Fire Department, AMED and Hollidaysburg EMS arrived on scene to assist.
