Clearfield sees flu cases rise

State reported 15 flu-related deaths last week

While the state Department of Health reports that it is likely this year’s flu outbreak has peaked statewide, Clearfield County saw its highest number of new laboratory-confirmed cases last week.

Blair County saw a slight uptick from the previous week, while Bedford County saw a 66 percent decrease.

Clearfield County reported 167 new flu cases last week. That was its highest weekly total for the season and was up 14 from the week that ended Feb. 17.

Bedford County saw the number of new cases fall to 26 down from 78 the week before.

Centre County also reported a big drop in the cases last week, falling 63 percent from 324 the week ending Feb. 17 to 119 last week. Centre has reported the most cases in the region this season with 1,707.

Cambria County reported a 44 percent drop to 66 new cases last week, down from 119 the week ending Feb. 17.

Blair County reported 230 new flu cases last week, up from 212 the prior week, and Huntingdon County had 80 new flu cases, the same as the week before.

Statewide, the number of new cases dropped 12 percent to 11,118 last week.

Pennsylvania also saw 15 flu-associated deaths last week, bringing the total for the season which began Oct. 1 to 150.
