Sears plans to close stores in Indiana, State College

Sears stores in State College and Indiana are slated to close in January as Sears Holdings continues to shed locations and tries to regain its financial footing.

Sears Holdings Corp. said it will close 63 Sears and Kmart stores early next year. Seven of the stores — four Kmarts and three Sears — are in Pennsylvania.

The Sears stores at 2999 E. College Ave., State College, and at 2334 Oakland Ave., Indiana, will close in January. The auto center in Indiana will close in December. Liquidation sales at the stores scheduled to close could start as early as next week.

Sears has already closed more than 350 stores this year.

The Altoona Sears and Kmart stores have not be affected by the closings.
