Police probe burglaries in Union Avenue area

Altoona police are investigating two burglaries that hit businesses within a two-block area of Union Avenue

Forr’s Garage, situated at 1111 18th St., was hit overnight between Oct. 28 and Oct. 29, and overnight between Wednesday and Thursday, the Lot-Less store at 1822 Union Ave. was burglarized, according to Altoona police Detective Lt. Ben Jones.

In the Forr’s Garage burglary, someone smashed out a window and made off with cigarettes, snacks and lighters, and in the break-in at Lot-Less, someone pried open the store’s door and stole cigarettes, Jones said.

Jones said the burglaries remain under investigation and police do not know if they are connected. Police are currently awaiting surveillance footage and Jones described the burglar captured in the Lot-Less burglary as wearing a mask, gloves and a camouflage jacket.
