Clearfield man faces assault charges

Skebeck allegedly assaulted CNA at UPMC Altoona

A Clearfield County man faces felony charges after allegedly assaulting a nursing assistant at UPMC Altoona.

Shawn E. Skebeck, 49, of Coalport was arraigned Monday by Magisterial District Judge Jeffrey Auker on felony aggravated assault charges along with misdemeanor counts of simple assault, disorderly conduct and harassment following an alleged incident Saturday on the hospital’s 12th floor.

According to UPMC Altoona police, a nurse and certified nursing assistant were getting Skebeck ready to be moved to a different floor about 6:20 a.m. when he spit on the CNA.

The nurse called for a doctor to order restraints for Skebeck because he was being combative and as the nurse and CNA began to restrain him, Skebeck allegedly assaulted the CNA.

Police said Skebeck kneed the woman in the stomach, grabbed her by the neck, punched her in the shoulder and spit on her again three more times.

It took several other staff members to get Skebeck restrained, and police said he continued to berate UPMC Altoona police Officer Justin Pennington after he was restrained and being questioned about the alleged assault.

Skebeck was arraigned Monday and released on a unsecured $10,000 bond.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 29 at Central Court.
