City man charged with strangulation

Police: Female victim reported difficulty breathing

An Altoona man faces a felony charge for a physical altercation with his children’s mother.

Dalton Lynn Hardy, 24, was arraigned Thursday morning by Magisterial District Judge Steven Jackson on a felony charge of strangulation, a misdemeanor charge of simple assault and a summary charge of harassment for a domestic incident at his Lloyd Street residence.

The female victim said she had difficulty breathing and said Hardy stated, “I’m going to put you to sleep” as he had his arm around her neck, a police affidavit states.

Altoona police Patrolman Matthew Miller observed the female victim had an abrasion on her forehead, dried blood inside her ear and a black eye.

The mother of Hardy’s children stated to police that the altercation happened in their kitchen Wednesday morning.

She said Hardy pushed her from behind knocking her head into the refrigerator, causing her ear to bleed. Hardy landed on top of her and began to strike her in the head about three to four times, the affidavit states.

The pair separated for about two to three hours, then Hardy and she began to argue, which led to Hardy placing his arm around her neck and squeezing with his elbow, police said.

He was released on $7,500 unsecured bail

A preliminary hearing for Hardy is scheduled before Magisterial Judge Jeffrey P. Auker on Sept. 13.
