Central Cambria’s DiLeo retires

Superintendent had been on temporary leave

Vincent DiLeo has retired as superintendent of Central Cambria School District, according to district solicitor Brendan Moran.

DiLeo did not explain the decision in his letter, which was received at the district office Thursday, and no reason for the retirement was given at a special meeting Thursday at which board members unanimously accepted the retirement — which is effective today, Moran said.

DiLeo went on temporary leave for personal reasons around Sept. 11.

In the letter, DiLeo wrote that he was “glad to have had the opportunity to serve the students and families of the district,” Moran stated. DiLeo also wrote that he was “confident the district has benefited from my time (there),” Moran added.

The special meeting, advertised in the Johnstown Tribune-Democrat, was scheduled to consider an agreement between the district and Ebensburg Borough for the district’s use of the borough pool and other general business purposes, Moran said.

DiLeo became superintendent at Central Cambria in 2009. His current five-year contract ran to June 2019.

A message left for DiLeo Thursday evening wasn’t returned.

School board members told the Mirror after DiLeo went on personal leave that they weren’t going to answer questions about the superintendent.
