Altoona man jailed in meth case faces additional charges

An Altoona man jailed on charges of trafficking crystal methamphetamine faces more charges for suspicious mail sent his way while in jail.

Trevor Allan Winters, 26, 1200 Park Blvd., waived his preliminary hearing on Wednesday on charges of possession with intent and possession of a controlled substance by a person not registered. Bail was set at $75,000 unsecured.

On June 7, police swooped in with a search warrant for Winters’ home, seizing a kilogram, or 2.2 pounds, of crystal meth.

Blair County District Attorney Richard Consiglio was quoted then as saying Winters and his associate, David Barr Jr., 35, of Ardmore, had a potential million-dollar operation.

Winters was charged with possession with intent, criminal use of a communication facility and possession of a controlled substance by a person not registered.

Winters’ bail was set at $25,000 cash in June, and Magisterial District Judge Jeffrey P. Auker bound over all of those charges against him for court in July.

That investigation by Altoona police and agents from the state Attorney General’s Bureau of Narcotics Investigation had started in February.

Later that month, U.S. Postal inspectors interdicted a package they suspected to contain controlled substances addressed to Winters.

Altoona police compiled a search warrant for the package sent by QUI Supplies Inc. of West Covina, Calif.

The package contained 104 white bars stamped “Xanax 2.” The pills were identified as alprazolam, a controlled substance.
