Curve to host Sawyer Brown

Concert slated for Sept. 23

The Altoona Curve has announced that they will host a concert featuring Sawyer Brown and Phil Vassar on Sept. 23.

It will be the first concert at Peoples Natural Gas Field in 10 years.

Sawyer Brown has released 20 studio albums, of which three have been certified gold in the United States for sales of 500,000 copies. More than 50 of their singles have entered the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs charts, including three No. 1 singles. Sawyer Brown also received a Horizon Award from the Country Music Association in 1985, as well as a Vocal Group of the Year award in 1997 from the Academy of Country Music and five Vocal Band Of The Year Awards from the TNN Music City News Country Awards.

Vassar is one of a handful of musicians to have multiple hits as a songwriter and as an artist. He has 10 No. 1s, 15 top 10s, and 26 top 40s. Top songs include “Just Another Day in Paradise,” “Carlene,” “Six Pack Summer,” “American Child,” “For a Little While” and “My Next Thirty Years” (Tim McGraw), “Right on the Money” (Alan Jackson), “I’m All Right” and “Bye Bye” (Jodee Messina).

Curve General Manager Derek Martin said late Thursday that tickets will go on sale at 9 a.m. Aug. 4 at the Curve box office.

Sheetz is the title sponsor for the show, billed as the 20th anniversary Kick-off Concert, to celebrate the Curve’s two decades in Altoona.

Field/standing tickets will be sold for $30 each, Martin said.

Reserved seating will be $25 per ticket, but Martin said My Sheetz loyalty cardholders will be able to purchase reserved seats for $20 at the ticket office with their card.
