Chief: Fire damages attached garage
From Mirror staff reports
ROARING SPRING — A Taylor Township home was damaged by flames Saturday morning, when fire ignited in an attached garage.
Firefighters responded shortly before noon to a home along Burkettown Road after residents reported the blaze, Friendship Volunteer Fire Company Chief Keith Pole said.
When they arrived, the homeowner had the fire contained with a fire extinguisher, Pole said. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish remaining flames, he said.
Two people were inside the home at the time the fire started, but no one was injured, Pole said.
The blaze, Pole said, likely started near a stove in the garage that was accidentally turned on.
Pole said Saturday’s fire is a good example of why homeowners should possess fire extinguishers.
“Everybody should have a fire extinguisher in their house — a fire extinguisher and smoke alarms,” he said.
