HOLLIDAYSBURG — A police standoff Friday afternoon ended with a man hospitalized after he cut himself with broken glass, police and neighbors said.

The incident occurred at a house along Broad Street at its intersection with Washington Avenue. Police had not released details or the suspect’s name as of Friday night, but the man and at least one police officer had received injuries, officers said.

A neighbor said the unidentified man emerged in his underwear from his house onto the slanted roof overhanging his front porch and smashed glass objects on his head.

“He was up there on top of the roof, breaking glass over his head, cutting his throat, cutting himself,” said Bruce Seiler, who lives nearby.

Police from several departments responded to the scene and took at least one man away in a stretcher. Officers said he was taken to UPMC Altoona, but details on his condition were not available Friday night.

A police officer was hurt at the scene, neighbors said, but the injuries did not appear to be serious.
