School district hires forester
BELLWOOD — Bellwood-Antis School Board members have come up with another way to make some money.
Board members Tuesday entered into a contract with Shaw Forestry of Altoona to manage a 25-acre tract of land the district owns off of Old Route 220 near Rite Aid.
Shaw Forestry estimated there may be $25,000 to $35,000 worth of timber, Superintendent Thomas McInroy said.
McInroy said Shaw will mark the trees and place them out for bid for sawmills. He said it will be a select cut and not a deforestation.
The contract calls for the districtás fee to be 10 percent of the proceeds, McInroy said.
