Police: Request to pull up pants leads to charges

A city man faces charges after he allegedly threatened a man who told him to pull up his pants.

Altoona police said just before 5:30 p.m. March 17 Dustin T. Lafferty, 20, 102 E. Hudson Ave., punched the side of a truck with brass knuckles and threatened the driver after the man called out to Lafferty to pull up his pants on North Fourth Avenue.

Lafferty was standing with his pants around his thighs when police arrived after the alleged altercation, one that started when the man, who was stopped at a red light, saw Lafferty with his sagging pants and exposed underwear and called out, “What the hell is wrong with you? Pull your pants up.”

According to police, Lafferty reached into his underwear, grabbed his genitalia and said, “Do you want to see these?”

When the man told Lafferty, “No, I don’t want to see your junk, just pull your pants up,” Lafferty allegedly ran toward the truck, police said.

The man rolled up his window as Lafferty ran onto the road and up to the truck with a pair of multi-colored brass knuckles, police said. Lafferty then punched the door and driver’s side window while shouting threats at the man.

As Lafferty punched the truck, the man called 911, and as soon as the light turned green, he drove off, police said.

Responding officers found the brass knuckles in Lafferty’s pocket and said multi-colored chips to the truck’s glass and paint could be seen.

Police said Lafferty smelled of alcohol, and when he was told his charges would include underage drinking, he allegedly said, “Aww, that’s not fair, I only had part of a beer and a shot or two.”

Lafferty was taken into custody and jailed, his bail set at $3,500 cash by Magisterial District Judge Fred Miller. He was released Wednesday after his bail was changed to a unsecured $3,500 bond.

Lafferty is due to appear in Blair County Court on April 22 for his formal arraignment on misdemeanor offensive weapons, terroristic threats and open lewdness charges. Lafferty is also cited with underage drinking, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.
