Rec Commission honors Gority

HOLLIDAYSBURG — Blair County commissioners signed a proclamation presented to former Commissioner Donna Gority at Saturday night’s Community Classic Dinner.

The Central Blair Recreation and Park Commission, which hosts the dinner, selected Gority to receive its Respected Citizen Award.

“She’s a respected citizen who very much deserves this award,” Commissioner Ted Beam Jr. said Thursday when commissioners reconvened their weekly business meeting.

Gority served 28 years as a commissioner before retiring at the end of 2012.

Commissioner Terry Tomassetti praised Gority’s leadership during his first year in office, 2008, when Gority steered commissioners toward selecting Affinity Healthcare of Indiana to manage Valley View Home. The company pursued measures that lead to the facility’s first four-star rating.

Commissioner Bruce Erb added his praise for Gority, who regularly worked with human service agencies.

“She set the gold standard for community service,” Erb said.
