Former Altoona police officer seeks post held by Auker

A former Altoona police officer has announced his candidacy for magisterial district judge.

Jeffrey D. Laich said he would be honored to continue to serve the community if he were elected to fill the seat now held by the retiring Magisterial District Judge Jeffrey Auker, whose district 24-1-03 covers half the city of Altoona from Juniata to 13th Street.

Laich, who lives in Juniata with his wife, Erin, and his children Dominick, Braxton and Aubrey, is a graduate of Altoona Area High School and a U.S. Air Force veteran. Laich was stationed at Hurlbert Field Air Force Base, Air Force Special Operations Command, 16th Special Operations Wing, 16th Security Police Squadron. Following his service, Laich worked in juvenile corrections and then as a state prison corrections officer at the State Correctional Institution at Huntingdon.

Laich worked as a police officer in the Altoona Police Depart-ment from 2000 until his retirement in September 2016. While at APD, Laich was a member of the department’s honor guard.

He is currently a deputy with the Blair County Sheriff’s Department.

Laich is a father of four (adult son, Joshua, continues to reside in the Altoona area) and was a soccer coach of elementary-age children for 10 years. He said he is no politician, just a member of the community and a loving husband and father.

Laich said he upholds the law and values of his community and understands the needs of the community that he has been a part of for more than 20 years.

A Facebook page, Jeffrey D. Laich for magisterial district judge 24-1-03, has been set up with additional information about his campaign.
