City man facing assault charge
Anspach accused of attacking family member, resisting police officers
A city man is behind bars on charges he attacked a family member and then fought with police.
Joshua D. Anspach, 38, 303 E. Sixth Ave., remains in Blair County Prison on simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and resisting arrest charges stemming from an alleged incident Friday night on the 2100 block of Chestnut Avenue.
According to Altoona police, Anspach was lying on the floor of an apartment about 10:15 p.m. Friday, and when his stepfather walked over to check on him, Anspach suddenly awoke and became angry.
Police said Anspach started to wrestle with his stepfather, ultimately headbutting the man before putting him in a headlock.
Police said the scuffle carried over into the living room, and when Anspach released the man from the headlock, Anspach walked into the kitchen and
ripped the door off the refrigerator.
Anspach then overturned furniture in the living room before fleeing the house with his 7-year-old son, police noted.
Altoona police located Anspach at his home and said there was a blood stain on the 7-year-old’s shirt. Anspach was arrested, and as police escorted him through the backyard, he allegedly tried to pull
away from one of the officers.
Police said another officer intervened as Anspach continued to try to pull away from police before he was loaded into a patrol car.
Anspach’s bail was set at $10,000 cash with a preliminary hearing slated for March 1 at Central Court in front of Magisterial District Todd Kelly.
