Man arrested in poaching incident

A Huntingdon County man faces a laundry list of charges stemming from an alleged poaching incident in November, where a Pennsylvania Game Commission vehicle was struck.

Rusty S. Garlock, 25, of Three Springs is accused of driving a pickup truck that smashed into a Wildlife Conservation Officer’s vehicle when the officer tried to stop the pickup truck Nov. 11 near Matthews Bridge Road in Springfield Township, Huntingdon County.

According to the Game Commission, officer Rick Macklem II was in the area, saw a spotlight and heard a gunshot at 10:10 p.m. Macklem drove toward the location of the light and shot and came across the pickup, which was driven by Garlock. When Macklem turned on his emergency lights, Garlock paused and then drove the truck straight at Macklem’s vehicle and sideswiped it.

Macklem was not hurt, and Garlock was arrested Saturday and arraigned on felony aggravated assault of an officer, flight to avoid prosecution and criminal mischief charges, along with a half-dozen misdemeanor counts including possessing an instrument of crime and recklessly endangering another person.

According to the Game Commission, a freshly shot anterless deer was found at the scene that night. Garlock also faces eight game violations.

Three others have been identified as being in the truck that night, according to the Game Commission. Those names were not released.

Garlock posted 10 percent of $25,000 bail on Monday and is scheduled to appear in Alexandria district court Dec. 14 for a preliminary hearing.
