Vandals deface boulder
HYNDMAN — Game Commission officers are looking for suspects after a boulder on state game land was painted within view of a road.
Officials said a nearby resident alerted them shortly after Labor Day to the vandalism at State Game Land 104, which sits west of Hyndman near the Bedford-Somerset county line. Photos show the boulder — which stands nearly as tall as a game officer — painted with a Confederate battle flag, the words “Wills Creek” and the message “J.F.K. 16.”
“Considering the amount of time and detail spent at the site and the location of the boulder, it is likely numerous passing motorists witnessed the vandalism in progress but didn’t realize it was on State Game Land,” Land Management Group Supervisor Jon Zuck said in a written statement.
The boulder will be sandblasted to remove the graffiti, officials said. Officers asked anyone with information on the vandalism to contact the regional commission office at 643-1831.
