Altoona Mirror launches new website

The Altoona Mirror has unveiled a new website that is cleaner looking and works with all types of mobile devices, including iPads and cellphones.

The site remains altoonamirror .com and launched this week.

“Our new website is another example of our mission to serve readers and advertisers in an up-to-date way and in a manner which is convenient to them,” Publisher Ed Kruger said. “We look forward to the public’s feedback.”

The site allows everyone full access to posted stories, such as obituaries, local news, local sports and more. Readers may be asked to complete simple surveys to see some stories.

However, to see the entire newspaper, including the columnists, crossword puzzles, comics, sports box scores and more, people will continue to use their All Access login as before. All Access is available free with paid home subscriptions. For questions, please contact the circulation department at 946-7480.

The link for the All Access is located near the bottom of the homepage below the Obituaries listing.

One of altoonamirror.com’s key features is its “responsive design,” meaning it provides the same look, feel and functionality to users no matter what device is being used — desktop or mobile.

The site will automatically scale and adjust to fit the device being used to view it.

“In just a day, we’ve had overwhelmingly positive feedback to the clean look and responsive design of the new site,” General Manager Ray Eckenrode said. “It’s another important step in maintaining the Mirror’s position as the place to go in central Pennsylvania for local news coverage and advertising and marketing solutions.”

The site offers even better opportunities for local advertisers to reach the ever-growing digital audience, Eckenrode said.

Other updated features include a redesigned Garage Sale feature that is mobile-friendly; a faster news content delivery system; the ability to comment on articles through a Facebook account; a searchable archive; and links to the most read stories of the day and the latest stories that have been posted.

A revamped Virtual Newsroom for submitting content for the Mirror is included in the site by clicking Submit News right below the newspaper’s name.

And because not everything can be included on the homepage, readers should check out the quick links by clicking on the three gray bar icon on the upper left of the site. This can direct readers to blogs, garage sale listings and contact information, as well as quick access to Sports and Opinion items.

The site can be searched by clicking on the magnifying glass in the upper right of the page. And there is a listing of Top Jobs near the bottom of the page.
