Gallagher to lead B-A district temporarily
BELLWOOD – Retired Hollidaysburg Area Superintendent Paul Gallagher will temporarily take the helm as superintendent for Bellwood-Antis School District.
The Bellwood-Antis School Board unanimously voted Tuesday to approve Gallagher as interim superintendent beginning Aug. 18 until a full-time superintendent is hired.
Gallagher will be paid $475 per day and will be in the office about two days per week.
The board’s Tuesday evening meeting in which Gallagher was hired was also the last meeting for Superintendent Brian Toth, who will assume the position of superintendent at St. Marys Area School District Aug. 18.
Toth has been Bellwood-Antis’ superintendent since August 2003.
Bellwood-Antis School Board President Steve Winterstein said Gallagher was an easy choice for temporarily replacing Toth while full-time candidates continue to apply through Aug. 25.
“It was important that we had someone who had significant experience, not just as a full-time superintendent but also as an interim superintendent,” he said.
“Dr. Gallagher qualified on all those fronts.”
Gallagher retired June 2013 from Hollidaysburg Area after 14 years as superintendent. He was subsequently hired by Purchase Line School Board that summer to serve as interim superintendent.
Gallagher currently teaches a Tuesday night class at Mount Aloysius College, Winterstein said. To fit Gallagher’s schedule, the board changed its meeting schedule to Monday nights.
