Police investigate Everett shooting

EVERETT – State police are continuing to investigate a shooting incident in Bedford County early Thursday.

Steven L. Dunkle, 44, of 511 Monroe St., Everett, is behind bars on charges that include attempted homicide, aggravated assault and possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance after troopers were called to Dunkle’s West Providence Township home about 2:30 a.m., according to state police in Bedford.

Police indicated Craig L. Showalter told troopers he was at Dunkle’s home when an argument ensued. Police said the argument turned violent, and Dunkle started shooting at Showalter.

Police said Showalter was injured in the shooting but did not provide details of his injuries.

Everett Borough police arrived at the scene ahead of state police and took Dunkle into custody. A subsequent search of Dunkle’s home turned up several guns, drugs and drug paraphernalia, state police noted.

Dunkle was arraigned Thursday on attempted homicide, aggravated assault, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, recklessly endangering another person, simple assault and terroristic threats. Bail was set at $150,000, and Dunkle was committed to Bedford County Jail.
