Police: Dispute leads to attempted homicide

EVERETT – Police said an Everett man shot another man in the hand during an argument Monday afternoon, marking the second Everett-area shooting in 10 days.

State Police said William Maenner, 45, was arguing with 24-year-old Jeffrey Sheeder near a West Providence Township residence around 2 p.m. when Maenner grabbed a shotgun and fired it away from his apartment.

Sheeder wrestled the shotgun from Maenner’s hands and apparently returned to his apartment, police said.

Maenner then allegedly returned to his own apartment, picked up a handgun, then kicked in the door to Sheeder’s apartment before firing seven shots in Sheeder’s direction.

A single shot struck Sheeder in the hand, police said.

Police arrested Maenner and charged him with attempted homicide, burglary and aggravated assault, among other charges. He was held at the Bedford County jail in lieu of $250,000 bail.

The shooting follows a July 3 shooting incident that left an Everett-area man in jail and his neighbor grazed by a bullet.
