Man accused of assaulting romantic rival outside mall
An Altoona man is behind bars after he allegedly beat a romantic rival outside the Logan Valley Mall.
Elliot A. Stewart 19, of 1515 12th St., Apt. 2, was arraigned Friday on aggravated assault and related charges stemming from a June 14 assault that left a man with a broken cheek bone and a concussion, according to Logan Township police.
It was about 9:40 p.m. when the victim of the alleged attack wandered back inside the mall, bleeding from his right cheek, according to police. The victim had just closed up the store where he worked inside the mall and was at his vehicle when he was assaulted, police said.
The victim told police he remembered leaving the mall, then being on the ground with Stewart standing above him. The victim’s girlfriend was once romantically involved with Stewart, police said.
Police found the victim’s broken sunglasses next to his car, along with blood and cigarette butts, and two days after the attack, Stewart allegedly told a witness at Sheetz in Duncansville that he assaulted the victim.
Stewart also posted incriminating comments on Facebook, telling everyone he was the only one who had assaulted the victim and anyone who gets anyone else involved will “get a fist through his face,” police noted in the affidavit of probable cause.
Stewart remains in Blair County Prison in lieu of $10,000 cash bond and is scheduled to appear before Magisterial District Judge Steven Jackson on Thursday for a preliminary hearing.
