Homeless woman faces drug charges

An Altoona homeless woman faces charges after police allegedly find her in a vacant apartment with drugs.

Misty G. Casteel, 47, was at a rental property on the 2000 block of 10th Street Thursday when police arrived after a call from the landlord, who court records indicate was evicting the leaseholder.

Casteel told police a friend of the tenant had told her she could stay at the property and she had arrived the night before, police noted in her arrest papers.

Police said drug paraphernalia, including needles, were visible throughout the residence and that Casteel had several small bags of bath salts as well as prescription pills, including hydrocodone with acetaminophine and Oxycontin.

Casteel was placed in Blair County Prison in lieu of 10 percent of $10,000 cash and is due to appear Wednesday at Central Court for a preliminary hearing on misdemeanor drug paraphernalia and possession charges.
