Police seeking CVS robbery suspect

A Beaver County man police said tried to hold up an Altoona pharmacy was after drugs, according to police.

Altoona police have charged Jason Douglas Emmett, 30, of 350 Sunset Hills Drive, Freedom, in the attempted robbery of CVS Pharmacy, 200 E. Plank Road, at about 12:30 p.m. on May 21, a robbery that investigators said targeted drugs.

Surveillance video from the pharmacy shows a white man dressed in a white Penn State hooded sweatshirt and black baseball cap put items on the counter and flashed a gun at a cashier before tucking it into his waist band and concealing it again.

A few moments later, a man, who police said was a pharmacist, walks over to the counter and scoops up what the man left on the counter. The two men talk, and the robber pulls out the gun again, lingers for a few seconds and walks away as the pharmacist disappears from the frame.

Altoona police Cpl. Detective Marshall Worling said Emmett was identified as the robber from a fingerprint lifted from a list of drugs he was demanding that he placed on the counter. The pharmacist refused to give Emmett the drugs, and he fled in a vehicle, one that showed up in surveillance footage and matched Emmett’s black 2006 Lexus GS 300.

“He didn’t get away with anything,” Worling said.

Worling said Altoona Detective Cpl. Nichole Douglas was able to lift a print from the paper left by Emmett, and he was identified after the print was sent to a state police crime lab.

Police attempted to find Emmett Wednesday and were given a false promise he would turn himself in to police Thursday morning, Worling said.

Police said Emmett is either driving his Lexus, bearing license plate JGW-4145, or a light-colored Nissan Sentra rental car.

Police ask that anyone with information about Emmett’s whereabouts call 911, or contact Altoona police at 940-5952 or through a private message through the department’s Facebook page.
