DA: Murder conviction should stand

STROUDSBURG (AP) – A northeastern Pennsylvania prosecutor is objecting to a federal magistrate’s recommendation that a South Korean man convicted of killing his daughter in what authorities called was an arson 25 years ago should be released from prison or given a new trial.

A federal judge will consider U.S. Magistrate Judge Martin C. Carlson’s June 13 recommendation to set aside the conviction of 79-year-old Han Tak Lee. Carlson says the science underpinning the case has been discredited.

The Monroe County district attorney’s office filed an objection Friday.
