Grant to help fund sex abuse training
Blair County has signed a grant application request for $10,000 from the Pennsylvania District Attorneys Association to use toward training those who work with sexually abused children.
First Deputy District Attorney Jackie Bernard told commissioners Tuesday that the grant will help Blair County move another step toward establishing a Multidisciplinary Investigative Team for child abuse investigations. The team concept has been recognized as a valuable resource that encourages cooperation of investigating agencies and prevents the child from having to repeatedly describe what happened.
If the grant is awarded, it will be used to pay for training local police officers, caseworkers, victim advocates and first responders who deal with sexually abused children.
