County preparing 911 committee

Blair County is preparing to organize a 911 Center advisory steering committee that will work with the department administrators and representatives of local agencies, which depend on the center’s operations.

Blair County 911 Director Mark Taylor proposed the organization and suggested members be appointed by commissioners, who remain responsible for the center which dispatches emergency service responders.

A resolution approved Tuesday indicates the committee will have 21 members that will include the emergency management agency director, four members of the 911 Center management staff and representatives from local fire departments, police departments, an emergency medical director and the sheriff.

Blair County Chief Clerk Helen Schmitt said the specific individuals to serve on the committee will be brought to commissioners for appointment.

Commissioner Diane Meling said the committee has potential to offer valuable input because of the many issues confronting counties and their 911 centers.
