Coroner: Man killed while tearing down mobile home

FALLENTIMBER – The collapse of a mobile home roof in Cambria County was fatal for a 70-year-old man.

The incident occurred at 103 Deer Run Road in Fallentimber, White Township, about 12:40 p.m. on Saturday.

Police said the man was demolishing the mobile home, which has been abandoned for years. His identity is being withheld pending notification of his closest family, said Cambria County Chief Deputy Coroner Jeffrey Lees.

The property owner asked the man and another individual if they wanted to tear the trailer down and cash in the aluminum, Lees said.

It was a project that they started on Monday. On Saturday, the cribbing holding up the roof came down, Lees said.

Lees pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Firefighters and an ambulance responded to the incident shortly after. State police in Ebensburg are investigating.

“It appears to be a freak accident at this point in time,” said Lees, who is working with the state police.

An autopsy is scheduled for today at Conemaugh Memorial Hospital in Johnstown.
