Central Cambria hires three administrators

JOHNSTOWN – The Central Cambria school board voted unanimously Monday to hire three administrators, including two hired away from neighboring Cambria County school districts.

During a meeting held at Jackson Elementary School along William Penn Avenue in Johnstown, the board selected Andrew Paronish as assistant high school principal and Jason Moore as curriculum director.

Paronish, who serves as Northern Cambria High School principal, was hired to his 10-month position at a $70,000 salary.

His duties will include overseeing the district’s discipline and attendance information system, as well as managing summer school and driver’s education. He is replacing retiring Assistant Principal Stanley Klezek.

Moore, who is the assistant principal of East Side Elementary School – part of the Greater Johnstown School District – will serve as the district’s curriculum director at $83,000.

Curriculum director is a position currently shared by two Central Cambria principals. Superintendent Vincent DiLeo said the board chose to make curriculum director its own job because its members want to make sure it’s up to date, appropriate and evaluated correctly.

It was too much work for two administrators to handle on top of their other duties, and Moore’s experience at East Side made him a great fit.

DiLeo also said Paronish has a wealth of experience and is approachable and fair, which will make him a good resource for students.

Paronish said he’s grateful for the opportunity to start at Central and is looking forward to working with the administration.

“There’s a wealth of professionalism, knowledge and vision at Central Cambria,” he said.

He said he’s noticed the district has been hiring young and eager professionals with new ideas to help improve education.

Moore did not respond to an email for comment.

Central Cambria alumna Jennifer Mesoras also was hired Monday as Cambria Elementary principal, at a $65,000 salary.

Mesoras was appointed interim principal in November after Luke Lansberry left to become Altoona Area’s curriculum director.

All hires are effective July 1, with Paronish’s and Moore’s contingent upon release from their respective school districts.
