Police: Man tried to pull ex from car

An Altoona man is behind bars on charges he attacked his ex-girlfriend with a knife.

Braden D. Galant, 21, 112 Ivyside Estates Lane, Altoona, was arrested early Saturday after he allegedly tried to drag his former girlfriend from vehicle in a parking lot on the 400 block of East 25th Avenue, according to police.

It was about 4 a.m. when Galant arrived in a cab and approached the woman as she sat in a vehicle with another man, police said. The woman tried to lock the door but was too late, and Galant tried to drag her from the vehicle, police said.

With the woman halfway out of the vehicle, Galant allegedly pulled out a knife and began swinging it at her. Police said the woman and the man in her vehicle were able to get the door closed, but Galant continued to swing the knife through the open window. When the driver of the vehicle tried to leave, Galant grabbed onto the car but eventually lost his grip as the car pulled away down East 25th Avenue.

Police said Galant chased the vehicle on foot before he was taken into custody.

Galant appeared drunk, police said.
