Police: Port Matilda resident threatened man, fired shots

PORT MATILDA – A Port Matilda man was arrested Saturday after police say he threatened to shoot a man on Houtz Lane in Halfmoon Township.

Philipsburg state police said the incident began about 3:10 a.m. when Luke D. Hoffman, 30, arrived at the rear of the man’s home.

Hoffman and the man had been communicating via text messages previously in the morning, police said. Hoffman had threatened to shoot the man before arriving at the scene and fired numerous shots into the ground in the area of the man’s residence, police said.

No projectiles were found to have struck the residence, and no one was injured, police said.

Hoffman was apprehended at the rear of the residence and taken into custody.

He was charged with terroristic threats, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and disorderly conduct.

He was lodged in the Centre County Prison on $10,000 straight bail, police said.
