Police file charges against alleged fire company burglar

Logan Township police have filed charges against a Greenwood man they say burglarized a fire station.

Brian A. Hoover, 25, of 118 Lock Haven Lane, was identified as a suspect in the Feb. 27 break-in of the Greenwood Volunteer Fire Department through video surveillance footage, according to Logan Township police.

Hoover was identified after the video was shown on a local television news station and posted to the Altoona Police Department’s Facebook page. The video shows a man crawling in through an unlocked window and taking the items. Police said several people called in to identify Hoover as the suspect.

Hoover was questioned by police Tuesday and allegedly admitted to taking three helmets and a firefighter’s jacket, police said.

Firefighters didn’t discover the theft until March 1, when members responded to the station for a fire and equipment was missing.

The stolen items were then thrown away by Hoover, according to police.

Hoover is charged with felony burglary, criminal trespass, theft and receiving stolen property. He remains in Blair County Prison on a probation violation pending an arraignment hearing on the charges.
