Police: Pair faked assault story

Two people face charges after Altoona police say they concocted a story about an assault.

Donald M. Rodgers Jr., 56, of 1012 12th St., Apt. 214, and Jamie L. Reese, 22, of 1315 16th Ave., Apt. 2, are both charged with misdemeanor false reports to police after they allegedly admitted they lied to Altoona police about an assault Jan. 18 at Rodgers’ IDA Towers apartment.

According to Altoona police, officers responded to the apartment about 4:30 p.m. Jan. 18 and were told by Rodgers and Reese that a man they both knew had knocked on the door, came into the apartment and punched Rodgers in the face. The man then walked out of the apartment, the pair claimed.

But after police talked to the alleged assailant and others, holes in the story appeared. The man had been to the apartment, but it was about 8 a.m. and he denied punching Rodgers, police said.

Police said the suspect had an alibi for the time he allegedly punched Rodgers, and ultimately Reese admitted Rodgers asked her to tell police the man had punched him.

The two made up the story in an effort to get back at the man for some previous perceived slight, police said.

Both Rodgers and Reese were charged via summons and are due to appear at Central Court Feb. 26.
