Fortune Magazine: Company one of best in US

About 80 Sheetz employees poured into the company’s corporate building on Sixth Avenue, many of them holding the signature coffee cups from their workplace.

But there was more than a caffeinated buzz among Sheetz employees Thursday morning. They were gathered by company President and CEO Joe Sheetz because something big was percolating.

“Sheetz has been named to Fortune Magazine’s 100 best companies to work for in the United States,” the CEO said.

Sheetz Inc. is no stranger to awards within its industry, but the Fortune Magazine recognition spans companies of all varieties. Sheetz is No. 87 on the list of 100, which includes Google and DreamWorks.

“The culture and workplace environment of Sheetz is something to be very proud of, and we’ve worked at it constantly – to improve the lives of employees,” Sheetz said.

Sheetz Inc. employs 15,000 people at 467 buildings in six states including Pennsylvania, Maryland and North Carolina.

News that Sheetz was among the best places to work in the nation drew applause from employees at the corporate building on Thursday.

“I wouldn’t want to work anywhere else,” six-year employee Brandi Seyer, said.

Seyer is an employee in the research and development department for Sheetz food.

“The benefits and special unique things they do for their employees is unheard of,” she said.

Fortune Magazine based a majority of its assessment of Sheetz on employee surveys.

Stan Sheetz, chairman of the board, credited the company’s 1,000 employees in management positions for cultivating a winning work atmosphere across hundreds of buildings.

“This is a recognition of the culture they built,” he said.

Joe Sheetz hopes to continue that culture.

“Our new goal is to stay on the list for years to come,” he said.
