Kenneth Wayne Leighty pleads guilty to third degree murder

HUNTINGDON — Kenneth Wayne Leighty this morning pleaded guilty to third degree murder in the 1999 slaying of his daughter-in-law, Sherry Jean Leighty.

Huntingdon County District Attorney George Zanic said he will seek a sentence of 7 to 14 years for Leighty.

Sherry Jean Leighty’s remains were found May 1 on a 155-acre property in Warriors Mark Township after Kenneth Leighty, who was charged with homicide May 13 showed searchers where to look, according to police .
