Campus party leads to 16 arrests
From Mirror staff reports
Sixteen people were arrested Saturday evening after Logan Township police were called to a “disorderly underage drinking party” at Nittany Pointe.
Those arrested included seven men, two women and a juvenile female, said Logan Township Police Chief Ron Heller.
The charges ranged from disorderly conduct, underage drinking, disorderly gathering and failure to disperse, Heller said.
Police found about 100 people at the party when they arrived on the scene shortly after 6 p.m. Not all of those at the party were Penn State Altoona students, Heller said.
Those at the party were throwing beer cans and other objects at the police cruisers, and they were told, “This is a riot situation and you need to disperse,” Heller said.
Heller said a few of the young people had climbed a water tower and the United Volunteer Fire Department had to be called in to help them get down.
Two Logan Township police officers suffered minor injuries during the incident. One was treated at UPMC Altoona, and the other will seek treatment later, Heller said.
