Foul play ruled out in death of baby

BELLEMEAD – Investigators have ruled out foul play in the death of a 6-day-old baby in Antis Township, according to the Blair County coroner.

Ashley Rouse was found dead by her mother, Saprina Rouse, Thursday morning at their apartment at 150 Grace Road in Bellemead, Blair County Coroner Patrica Ross said Friday.

The child was rushed to Altoona Regional just after 8 a.m. Thursday, but attempts by EMS personnel to resuscitate Ashley were unsuccessful, and she was pronounced dead at the emergency room, Ross explained.

Ross said her office calls in the state police for any infant’s death, and although foul play was ruled out, Ross is awaiting additional medical reports to determine what killed the child.

Ross said Sudden Infant Death Syndrome is a possibility, but she is awaiting microsopic analysis and toxicology reports. Ross said she doesn’t expect to find anything in the toxicology results that would explain the baby’s death, but as with all infant deaths. investigators are exploring every angle.
