Huntingdon crash kills 62-year-old

One man was killed and another flown to Altoona Regional following an early morning crash on Route 22 in Huntingdon County.

Police said Oran E. Woodward, 62, of Mapleton Depot, Huntingdon County, was killed when his 2009 Toyota Corolla collided with another vehicle shortly after 7:30 a.m. Saturday.

The crash temporarily closed a portion of Route 22 in Brady Township between Mapleton and Mount Union, police said.

The driver of the second vehicle, Benjamin Ryan Hoover, 21, of West Newton, Westmoreland County, was flown to Altoona Regional for injuries suffered in the crash.

His condition was listed as fair Saturday afternoon, Altoona Regional officials said.

Huntingdon County Coroner Paul J. Sharum pronounced Woodward dead at the scene of the crash.

An autopsy to determine Sharum’s cause of death is scheduled for Monday, Sharum said.

In addition to state police at Huntingdon, Mapleton Fire Department, Mount Union Fire Department and Ambulance, Mill Creek Fire Department and Pennsylvania State Police Collision Reconstruction and Forensic Services officials responded to the crash.
