10:45 a.m.: Standoff suspect in custody

NEWRY — Police apparently have the standoff suspect in custody following an incident early Sunday morning on Catfish Road.

A volunteer firefighter at the scene said there was a loud boom about 10:30 a.m. that “shook the ground.” Minutes later, police apparently took a person into custody who was allegedly involved in a standoff with Hollidaysburg state police and Blair Township police since early this morning.

A volunteer fireman at the scene said the incident began when a shooter fired at a resident.

The state police Special Emergency Response Team (SERT) and the Logan Township SWAT team are also reportedly on scene.

More than a dozen marked and unmarked police cars are parked along Catfish Road, which is blocked off from Dunnings Highway to Charger Highway.

The police command center is under the Interstate 99 bridge.

A parishioner at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Newry said Monsignor Anthony Little told the congregation at the beginning of this morning’s 9 a.m. Mass to pray for the people involved and those responding.

The American Red Cross is on scene assisting responders.
