Altoona Hotel burns in overnight fire

The Altoona Hotel burned overnight in a fire that had city firefighters also battling frigid temperatures.

The restaurant is on the 3800 block of Fifth Avenue.

The cause is under investigation.

The roof appears to be burned through and collapsed onto the 1 1/2-story building. Signs and a half-dome canopy at the front of the building are encased in ice. The parking lot and streets around the building are also ice-covered, the remnant of firefighters’ efforts to battle the blaze in the cold.
