New hires and promotions

— Paige Ruiz has joined Swift Kennedy & Associates, an insurance brokerage firm, as an administrative assistant at its State College office.

Ruiz was previously an admissions representative at the South Hills School of Business & Technology and an office administrator at Baker Tilly Virchow Krause LLP.

— Cindy Sisson has been named as interim vice president for enrollment management at Saint Francis University.

Sisson will oversee strategic functions pertaining to university undergraduate admissions, financial aid and marketing while a search for a permanent successor is underway. She comes to Saint Francis from Grace College and Theological Seminary in Winona Lake, Indiana, where she served as vice president of enrollment management and marketing.

— Dr. Madhavi Kandel, a board certified psychiatrist specializing in child/adolescent and adult patients, joined Cone­maugh Health System.

At Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johns­town, Kandel will treat both inpatients and outpatients, four years of age and older for a range of mental health conditions.

Awards and honors

— Jennifer Christman of Ebens­burg, chief and executive vice president of Be­hav­ioral Programs for VetAdvisor/Three Wire Systems LLC, has been awarded the 2019 Service to the Citizen, Champions of Change Award.

The award is part of the wider Champions of Change program, presented by Dorris Consulting International, recognizing professionals who improve and positively transform the customer experience of the U.S. government’s most critical services.

— Attorney James Garver, an Altoona resident and workers’ compensation attorney at the law firm of Edgar Snyder & Associates, has been named to the 2019 Pennsylvania Super Lawyers list. This is his sixth year receiving the honor.

Super Lawyers is a rating service of lawyers from more than 70 practice areas who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement.

Course completions and certifications

— Jennifer Wagner of Barnes Saly & Co. PC, Certified Public Accountants, has earned the Certified Payroll Professional certification.

Wagner is a senior accountant with the firm at its Johns­town location, focusing on tax, payroll and bookkeeping for clients.


— Thomas J. McAneny retired from McAneny Brothers, a food distributor based in Ebens­burg, which he started with his brothers Stephen and Joseph in 1979.

Tom has served as secretary/ treasurer of the food wholesaler for the past 40 years. In addition to his accounting and finance duties, Tom oversaw several warehouse expansions, the most recent completed in 2017.

— Carol Beichler retired from Tyrone Hospital after nearly 32 years of service.

She was hired to work in the nutrition services department as a full-time snack bar attendant in 1987 and she remained in her position until her retirement.
