Bellefonte man killed in crash

One person was killed and another seriously injured after a pickup truck turned into the path of a motorcycle Sunday.

According to state police, Dean W. Korman Jr., 57, of Bellefonte, was killed when the 2012 Honda Fury he was riding struck the pickup truck on South Eagle Valley Road in Taylor Township, Centre County, about 5 p.m. Sunday.

State police indicated that Korman was headed north, and 52-year-old Michael Boyles, of Port Matilda, was driving south when Boyles turned left across the northbound lane in his 2009 Ford F-250 pickup truck.

Korman laid his bike down in an attempt to avoid the truck but the motorcycle hit the back fender, killing Korman. Korman’s passenger, 51-year-old Blanca Rincon, of Bellefonte, suffered serious injuries.

Both Korman and Rincon were wearing helmets. Boyles was not injured in the crash.

The investigation remains ongoing, state police noted.

No-wake zone extended at Raystown

A no-wake zone at Raystown Lake has been extended through mid-August, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District, said.

The temporary no-wake zone begins about 600 feet south of Seven Points Marina, extending southward for about three-tenths of a mile and across the entire lake extending east to west.

Commercial divers are conducting an assessment of the lake bottom along the Mariner East II/Pennsylvania Pipeline Project right-of-way. A barge supporting the diver operations will be deployed daily near the center of this area.

Within this temporary zone, boaters are asked to maintain minimum speed while still making headway to avoid wave formations in the area.
