Aviation program launched

LORETTO — A new Saint Francis University program offered in partnership with Nulton Aviation Services of Johnstown will allow students to earn a bachelor’s degree and a private/commercial pilot’s license at the same time.

The Aviation Concentration (private/commercial pilot certification) at SFU is the third program of its type in Pennsylvania to combine bachelor’s degree credits with pilot licensing. Classes begin Aug. 27, but there is still time to enroll in the first class.

The 21-credit concentration is designed to be taken as part of a bachelor’s degree program of the student’s choice. It combines theory courses on the SFU campus taught by certified flight instructors from Nulton with scheduled time flight time at the John Murtha Johnstown-Cambria County Airport. Students who successfully complete the program will qualify for a private pilot’s license after the first year and a commercial pilot’s license by the final year.
