Chamber accepting applications for YEA!
The Blair County Chamber of Commerce is accepting applications for the Young Entrepreneurs Academy for the 2018-19 class.
YEA! is a 25-week program that guides middle and high school students through launching and running their own businesses or social movements.
YEA! is open to sixth- to 12th-graders. Students will receive all the necessary tools to launch their own real, legal businesses.
The YEA! application is available online at yeausa.org. Scholarships are available for students who meet eligibility requirements. Contact Royce Boyd, program manager, for details at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The selection process is competitive and applicants are urged to apply early.
YEA! classes begin Oct. 9 and conclude in April. Classes meet weekly at the Penn State Altoona Sheetz Center for Entrepreneurial Excellence in downtown Altoona during the school day. Transportation is provided by the school districts.
ARC Federal Credit Union reports record year
ARC Federal Credit Union closed the largest number and amount of loans in its history for one year at nearly $20 million in 2017, according to its annual report.
The credit union ARC enhanced a number of products and services for its members during the year, including the popular member educational session “Financing College Expenses” for both members and potential members.
ARC continued its efforts to demonstrate its commitment to the community by awarding more than $13,000 in sponsorships and donations to area causes.
ARC started two major projects in 2017. The first was signing a contract for the construction of an addition to its headquarters and the second was the establishment of a commercial lending program.
