First Commonwealth honored

First Commonwealth Bank was recognized recently for its efforts to encourage Americans and its customers to save money during America Saves Week and Military Saves Week.

First Commonwealth Bank was one of 15 banks, 17 credit unions and five military-affiliated organizations recognized around the world.

America Saves Week is coordinated by America Saves and the American Savings Education Council.

Poole Anderson wins awards

Poole Anderson Construction recently received two National Excellence in Construction Awards for their work on the Weis Markets Store No. 225 in Enola and the Juniata College Winton Hill Athletic Complex projects.

The Pyramid Awards were given recently during the Associated Builders and Contractors’ 28th Annual Excellence in Construction Awards celebration at the ABC National Convention in Long Beach, Calif.

The Weis Markets store won in the category of General Contractor – Commercial

$5 to $10 million.

Juniata College’s Winton Hill Athletic Complex in Huntingdon won in the category of General Contractor – Institutional Less than $5 million.

ABC’s Awards of Excellence Program has become the premier competition within the construction industry that recognizes outstanding construction projects across the nation.

AccuWeather recognized

In the most comprehensive study of forecast accuracy ever undertaken, AccuWeather was once again overwhelmingly confirmed as the world’s most accurate source of weather forecasts in the categories of wind, precipitation and high-temperature forecasts.

In the study, conducted by Forecast Watch, AccuWeather was the clear winner in wind speed forecast accuracy, proving to be 33 percent more accurate than the nearest provider of weather forecasts and 41 percent more accurate than the average of all other sources examined.

AccuWeather’s probability of precipitation forecasts was 21 percent more accurate than those of the next-ranked provider and 23 percent more accurate than the average of all other sources in the independent study by industry tracker ForecastWatch.

The study analyzed nearly 95 million forecasts from six weather providers for 1,140 locations around the world during the three-year period ending Dec. 31, 2017.
