and promotions
Dr. Juddson Chason has joined Conemaugh Physician Group – Urology.
Chason has been a longtime locum tenens for Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center and now permanently joins Conemaugh Physician Group as an employed physician.
Karan Hinman Powell has been appointed to serve as interim vice president for academic affairs at Saint Francis University, effective June 4.
Powell will assume the duties of interim vice president when Wayne Powel, the current provost, steps down at the end of the month. She will continue in the role while a national search for a permanent successor is underway.
Harold Partsch, a certified registered nurse practitioner, has joined Conemaugh Physician Group.
Partsch will see patients at Conemaugh East Hills Outpatient Center in the pain clinic, and he will assist with Conemaugh’s Concussion Clinic.
Awards and honors
Daniel Dries, of Huntingdon, an assistant professor of chemistry at Juniata College, received the Henry and Joan Gibbel Award for Distinguished Teaching, an award reserved for faculty members with fewer than six years of service.
Russel J. Driskel,of Carrolltown and Donald Hoover of Martinsburg, were among 29 PennDOT employees recognized for their outstanding performance with the Star of Excellence Award, PennDOT’s highest recognition.
Driskel, a senior civil engineer supervisor, was recognized for leading the challenge of addressing a failing pavement issue on Interstate 99.
Hoover, a transportation equipment operator, took the initiative to obtain his pesticide applicator license on his own, making him the only operator in the county with a license.
Cory Gehret, a shareholder in Stiffler McGraw, has been appointed as treasurer on the Altoona Water Authority Board of Directors.
Gehret has been with Stiffler McGraw for 15 years and oversees the Land Development, Environmental and Transportation Division.
Beth Roland, of Altoona, a clinical charge of the medical-surgical/ICU units at Tyrone Hospital and nurse on the Tyrone Hospital medical/surgical unit, is the recipient of Tyrone Hospital’s Spirit of Nursing Award for 2018.
Roland has spent 11 years or a third of her career at Tyrone Hospital. She joined Tyrone after working for a number of years in critical care nursing at larger hospitals around the area.
Barb Hollibaugh, unit manager at SCI Huntingdon, was one of 13 employees recognized by the state Department of Corrections as part of the agency’s celebration of “Corrections Employee Week in Pennsylvania.”
Hollibaugh has been with the department for 29 years and is currently responsible for running one of the most innovative and successful Residential Treatment Units in the state where she oversees the Certified Peer Support Specialist program and is a member of the Critical Incident Stress Management team.
Donna Helsel, general manager/certified field trainer for Motel 6 Altoona, was recently named GM of the Year for Region 7 of G6 Hospitality.
The award is based on her leadership, outstanding quality scores, commitment to her team and to the G6 Hospitality Enterprise.
Course completions and certifications
Jackie Robertson-Gutshall, a compliance officer at Advanced Regional Center for Ankle and Foot Care, Altoona, has successfully completed the Certified in Healthcare Compliance Examination, thus earning the “CHC” designation.
She is also certified in healthcare privacy compliance and holds the “CHPC” designation.
Magisterial District Fred B. Miller was again certified for service as a member of Pennsylvania’s Unified Judicial System after successful completion of continuing legal education course work.
The program is designed to ensure that magisterial district judges remain current in legal topics and management techniques required to fairly adjudicate cases and supervise a district court office.

and seminars
Michael DelGrosso of DelGrosso Foods will be the keynote speaker at the 20th annual Entrepreneur’s Growth & Networking Conference on June 7 at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh.
DelGrosso will speak on a “Recipe for Success.”
