Blair County Non-Profit of the Month

Name: Dreams Go On Inc.

Years in existence: 35-plus. We began as High Hopes and merged to become Dreams Go On approximately 16 years ago.

Employees: Seven part-time employees: a program manager, a lead instructor and assistant instructors (most of our workers are volunteers)

Type of non-profit: We are a 501C3 program that provides therapeutic horseback riding.

Populations served: We serve riders in Blair County ages five years and up who have emotional and/or physical challenges.

Areas of focus: Our goal is to provide a quality therapeutic horseback riding program geared to the needs of our riders. We stretch both the mind and the body through horseback riding. The interaction between the rider and the horse is essential!

What services or programs does your non-profit provide? We provide four 6-week riding sessions per year (March through October) for our riders.

We also provide private horseback riding lessons in our “down time” (November through February) to keep our staff and horses in work mode.

Upcoming event(s): Our largest fundraising event is our Annual Lehman Engineers Trail Ride & Walk on Sept. 30 at Canoe Creek. Come join us!

Additional information: We presently have 60-plus riders, along with a waiting list of those who wish to join our program. We are always looking for volunteers to assist us (16 years of age and older, please).

Contact information: For additional riding or volunteer information, please contact Debbie Kelly, program manager, at 814-312-2614 or dkely1006@atlanticbb.net/www.DreamsGoOn.com.

Through cooperation with the Blair County Chamber

of Commerce, the Mirror will feature a nonprofit

corporation on the last Sunday of each month.
