New hires and promotions

William R. Crowe has joined Tyrone Regional Health Network/Tyrone Hospital as chief financial officer.

Crowe most recently served as chief financial officer at The Martella Group in Johnstown, a regional group of pharmacies serving regional and national clients.

He brings more than 40 years of progressive healthcare, financial and operations leadership, in both not-for-profit and for-profit organizations, to TRHN.

Dr. Samuel Magee has been appointed as the new interim chief of staff at James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center.

Prior to his current appointment, Magee served with VA as the chief of surgery.

Additionally, he worked at UPMC Altoona for 35 years, and he was the chairman for the Department of Surgery at UPMC Altoona for 27 years. He was also the chief of staff there from 1998 to 2002.

Awards and honors

Andrew Cupples, justice and civic design leader for DLR Group’s Los Angeles, Calif., office, was recently elevated to the American Institute of Architects College of Fellows. Fellowship is one of the highest honors that the AIA awards.

Cupples is originally from Altoona and is a graduate of Penn State University.

Mindy Stohon, American Heart Association education specialist in the Department of Continuing Education at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, has been recognized by The American Trauma Society, Pennsylvania Division, with the Trauma Prevention Recognition Award.

The award is given to an individual or group in Pennsylvania for going above and beyond to carry out the mission of trauma prevention. Stohon is only one of two in Pennsylvania to receive this award.
