Jersey Mike’s Subs will become a tenant in the Kranich’s Plaza being constructed along Plank Road.

Jersey Mike’s is a submarine sandwich chain headquartered in Manasquan, N.J. The Jersey Mike’s franchise has almost 1,300 locations open and about 70 more in development across the United States.

“We are really excited they will be our first tenant and will be a great addition to the area,” said Michael Kranich Jr., Kranich’s Jewelers president.

Kranich’s is building a two-story structure on the site of a former Sheetz to house the Kranich’s jewelry store operation and the firm’s corporate offices, both now in Logan Valley Mall, along with probably two tenants.

Jersey Mike’s will use about 1,800 square feet on the north end of the building.

Matt Patterson, who owns two Jersey Mike’s locations in State College, will be the franchise owner.

“We’ve been looking at the area since we opened in State College about seven years ago. We’ve always been looking in our backyard. We believe this will be a good market for us. I know the Kranich’s pretty well. It seemed like a perfect fit,” said Patterson, who owns 10 franchises throughout the central Pennsylvania area.

Kranich’s hopes to move into the new location in August, and Patterson said he hopes to open this fall and will employ about 30 full- and part-time workers.

Meanwhile, Kranich said he has space remaining for another tenant in the middle of the building.

“We are talking to several other people about the other spot in the middle,” Kranich said.
